House of David

Also known as Davidic line

The House of David was the dynasty that, according to the Hebrew Bible, descended from King David and ruled the Kingdom of Judah from Jerusalem for about four centuries, until the Babylonian conquest of 587/586 BCE. The phrase appears in the Tel Dan stele of the 9th century BCE, its earliest known mention outside the Bible. Jewish and Christian tradition expected the Messiah to come from David's line.
