Rehoboam

10th century BCE · 10th century BCE

Rehoboam was the son of Solomon and, according to the Hebrew Bible, the first king of Judah after the division of the united monarchy around 930 BCE. When he refused the northern tribes' demand to lighten their burdens, they made Jeroboam king, leaving Rehoboam only Judah and part of Benjamin. During his reign the Egyptian pharaoh Shishak, usually identified with Shoshenq I, campaigned in the land.
