Istaravshan

Also known as Ura-Tyube

Istaravshan, known until 2000 as Ura-Tyube, is a city in the Sughd region of northern Tajikistan, on the northern slopes of the Turkestan range. One of the oldest towns of Central Asia, it lay in the medieval principality of Ustrushana, whose name the modern city revives. It was long a trading and craft centre on the routes between the Fergana valley and Samarkand.
