Samanid Empire

Also known as Samanids, Samanid

The Samanid Empire was a Persian dynasty that ruled Khurasan and Transoxiana in the ninth and tenth centuries, initially as governors under the Abbasid Caliphate. Its capital Bukhara became a centre of the revival of Persian language and literature. Accounts of the Abbasid Caliphate list the Samanids among the autonomous successor states, while accounts of the Seljuk Empire note their role on the frontier where Turkic peoples entered the Islamic world.
