Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues

c. 1533–1588 · 16th century

Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues was a French artist and cartographer who accompanied René Goulaine de Laudonnière's Huguenot expedition to Florida in 1564. He escaped the Spanish capture of Fort Caroline in 1565 and later settled in London. His account and drawings of the Timucua, published as engravings by Theodor de Bry in 1591, are among the earliest European images of Native North Americans.
