Jaffna Kingdom

c. 13th century–1619 · 13th century · Also known as Kingdom of Jaffna, Aryacakravarti dynasty

The Jaffna Kingdom was a Tamil kingdom in northern Sri Lanka ruled by the Aryacakravarti dynasty, whose origins are connected with the Pandya expeditions to the island in the late 13th century. Centred on the Jaffna peninsula, it controlled the pearl fisheries at times and rivalled the Sinhalese kingdoms, until the Portuguese conquered it in 1619.
