Jaimal Rathore

d. 1568 · 16th century · Also known as Jaimal Mertiya

Jaimal Rathore, also called Jaimal Mertiya, was a Rajput chief of Merta who commanded the defence of Chittor when Akbar besieged the fort in 1567–1568, after Udai Singh II had withdrawn to the hills. Wounded during the siege, according to Mughal accounts by a shot from Akbar himself, he died in the final assault in February 1568. Akbar later had statues of Jaimal and his fellow commander Patta set up at the gate of the fort at Agra.
