Jalal al-Din Ahsan Shah
Jalal al-Din Ahsan Shah was the founder of the Madurai Sultanate in southern India. Governor of the Delhi Sultanate's province of Ma'bar, he rebelled against Muhammad bin Tughluq in 1335 and declared independence, striking coins in his own name. The sultanate he founded ruled the Madurai region until the Vijayanagara conquest in the 1370s. The traveller Ibn Battuta married one of his daughters.
