Jalaram

1799–1881 · 19th century · Also known as Jalaram Bapa

Jalaram, known as Jalaram Bapa, was a Hindu saint of Virpur in Saurashtra, Gujarat, and a devotee of Rama. Around 1820 he founded a free kitchen (sadavrat) at Virpur that fed all comers regardless of caste, a tradition still continued at his temple, which has refused donations since 2000. He remains widely revered among Gujaratis in India and abroad.
