James River
The James River is a river in Virginia, United States, flowing about 560 kilometres from the Appalachian Mountains to Chesapeake Bay at Hampton Roads. Named after King James I, it was the site of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in America, founded in 1607. Its banks became the heart of Virginia's tobacco plantation economy, and Richmond grew at its falls.
