Janiculum
The Janiculum is a long hill on the west bank of the Tiber in Rome, outside the ancient city's seven hills. In 1849 it was the scene of the fiercest fighting in Giuseppe Garibaldi's defence of the Roman Republic against the French, and a monument to Garibaldi and memorials to the fallen now stand there.
