Aurelio Saffi

1819–1890 · 19th century

Aurelio Saffi was an Italian republican politician from Forlì and a close follower of Giuseppe Mazzini. In 1849 he served with Mazzini and Carlo Armellini as one of the three triumvirs who governed the short-lived Roman Republic until French troops restored papal rule. He then lived in exile in England, teaching Italian at Oxford, before returning to Italy, where he edited Mazzini's collected writings.
