Jeju Island

Also known as Jejudo, Quelpart

Jeju Island is a volcanic island off the southern coast of South Korea, the country's largest island, dominated by Mount Hallasan. It was the seat of the kingdom of Tamna before its absorption by Goryeo, and in 1273 the last Sambyeolcho rebels were crushed there. In the Jeju uprising and its suppression in 1948–1949 tens of thousands of islanders were killed. It is now a self-governing province and a major resort.
