Person
John R. Hodge
John R. Hodge was a United States Army general who commanded XXIV Corps in the Pacific War, including at Leyte and Okinawa. In September 1945 he landed his corps at Incheon, accepted the Japanese surrender in Seoul and became commander of the American occupation of southern Korea. His military government, inexperienced in Korean affairs, kept Japanese-era officials and police and clashed with left-wing Korean groups until the Republic of Korea was founded in 1948.
