John Redmond

1856–1918 · 19th century

John Redmond was an Irish nationalist politician who led the reunited Irish Parliamentary Party from 1900 until his death. Holding the balance of power after 1910, he secured the passage of the Third Home Rule Bill in 1914, but his support for the British war effort and the suspension of Home Rule cost him ground to Sinn Féin after the Easter Rising.
