Jezreel (city)

Also known as Tel Jezreel

Jezreel was an ancient city in the north of the Kingdom of Israel, on a ridge overlooking the Jezreel Valley. Excavations at Tel Jezreel have revealed a large fortified royal enclosure of the ninth century BCE, built by the Omride kings as a second residence and military base. According to the Books of Kings, Jehu's coup ended there with the deaths of Joram and Jezebel.
