Person
John Philip (missionary)
John Philip was a Scottish missionary who led the London Missionary Society in South Africa from 1819. He campaigned for the legal rights of the Khoikhoi, and his Researches in South Africa of 1828, with lobbying in London, helped secure Ordinance 50 and its confirmation by the British government. Settlers regarded him as a dangerous agitator.
