Jolo

Jolo is the main town of the island of the same name in the Sulu archipelago of the southern Philippines. It was the capital of the Sulu Sultanate and a busy trading port, exporting pearls, sea cucumbers and birds' nests. Spain attacked it repeatedly in the Moro wars, held it from 1638 to 1646 and took it permanently in 1876. It is now the capital of Sulu province.
