Juan Manuel Santos

1951– · 20th century

Juan Manuel Santos is a Colombian politician who was president from 2010 to 2018. As defence minister under Álvaro Uribe he led a hard military campaign against the FARC, but as president he negotiated a peace agreement with the group, signed in 2016. Voters narrowly rejected the first text in a referendum, but a revised deal was approved by Congress, and he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2016.
