Medellín
Medellín is Colombia's second-largest city and the capital of Antioquia department, in the Aburrá Valley of the Andes. It grew in the 20th century as a centre of the coffee trade and the textile industry. In the 1980s and 1990s it was notorious as the base of Pablo Escobar's Medellín Cartel, but later urban projects such as its metro and cable cars won international attention.
