Kagoshima Prefecture
Kagoshima Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan at the southern tip of Kyushu, including the Satsuma and Osumi peninsulas and a chain of islands reaching towards Okinawa. It was created in 1871 from the lands of the Satsuma Domain, whose Shimazu lords had ruled the region for centuries. Its capital is the city of Kagoshima, facing the active volcano Sakurajima.
