Kagoshima

Kagoshima is a city on Kagoshima Bay in southern Kyushu, Japan, facing the active volcano Sakurajima. It was the castle town of the Shimazu lords of Satsuma, where Francis Xavier landed in 1549, and a British squadron bombarded it in 1863. Satsuma men from Kagoshima led the Meiji Restoration, and it is now the capital of Kagoshima Prefecture.
