Ōsumi Province
Ōsumi Province was an old province of Japan in southern Kyushu, covering the eastern part of modern Kagoshima Prefecture. It was created in 713 to strengthen control over the Hayato. From the Middle Ages it was held by the Shimazu clan, who ruled it with Satsuma until 1871, when it became part of Kagoshima Prefecture.
