Osugbo
Osugbo is the Ijebu name for the Ogboni, the society of senior elders found in many Yoruba towns of south-western Nigeria. In the Ijebu Kingdom the Osugbo held judicial authority, tried serious offences and acted as a counterweight to the Awujale, the king. Its lodges, secret rituals and brass emblems were linked with the cult of the earth.
