Obanta

Obanta is the legendary founder of the Ijebu Kingdom in south-western Nigeria. According to Ijebu tradition he migrated from Ile-Ife, the ancestral Yoruba city, and settled at Ijebu-Ode, which became the capital of the kingdom. The Awujale, the kings of Ijebu, regard him as the ancestor of their line, and his memory is central to the town's account of its origins.
