Battle of Imagbon

1892 · 19th century

The Battle of Imagbon was fought in May 1892 between a British expeditionary force from Lagos and the army of the Ijebu Kingdom in south-western Nigeria. It followed Ijebu's closure of its trade routes to Lagos merchants. The better-armed British force defeated the Ijebu near Imagbon and went on to occupy their capital, Ijebu-Ode, opening the Yoruba interior to British control.
