Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi is a town in western Thailand at the meeting of the Khwae Noi and Khwae Yai rivers, capital of the province of the same name. It guarded the route from Burma through the Three Pagodas Pass, used by Burmese armies in the wars of the eighteenth century. During the Second World War the Japanese built the Burma Railway through the area, including the bridge over the Khwae Yai, with prisoners of war and Asian labourers.
