Kapilavastu
Kapilavastu was the ancient city of the Shakya clan, in whose territory the Buddha grew up in the 5th or 6th century BCE. Its exact site is disputed between Tilaurakot in Nepal and Piprahwa in India, both with remains of the period. According to tradition, the Kosalan king Vidudabha destroyed the city and massacred the Shakyas.
