Karen people
The Karen are a group of related peoples speaking Karenic languages, living mainly in the hills of south-eastern Myanmar along the Thai border, with communities in Thailand. Many became Christians through 19th-century Baptist missions. The Karen National Union began an armed struggle for autonomy in 1949, one of the world's longest-running insurgencies, and hundreds of thousands of Karen have fled to camps in Thailand.
