Karenni people
The Karenni, also called the Red Karen or Kayah, are a Karen people of the hills of eastern Myanmar, living mainly in Kayah State and across the border in Thailand. In the 19th century their chiefs ruled several small states that Britain and Burma recognised as independent in 1875. Many Karenni have resisted Burmese central rule since independence in 1948.
