Kayah State

Kayah State is the smallest state of Myanmar, in the hills of the east bordering Thailand, with its capital at Loikaw. It was formed from the former Karenni States, which joined the Union of Burma in 1948, and was renamed Kayah State in 1952. Armed Karenni groups have fought the central government there for much of the period since independence.
