Kariba Dam
The Kariba Dam is a concrete arch dam on the Zambezi river between Zambia and Zimbabwe, built from 1955 to 1959 by the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland to supply hydroelectric power to the Copperbelt and Southern Rhodesia. Its reservoir, Lake Kariba, is among the largest artificial lakes in the world by volume. Its construction displaced some 57,000 Tonga people from the valley.
