Khalimpur copper plate

late 8th century · 8th century

The Khalimpur copper plate is a land grant of the Pala king Dharmapala, found at Khalimpur in the Malda district of West Bengal. It is the main source for the origins of the Pala dynasty, describing the anarchy before Gopala as matsyanyaya, 'the law of the fish', and recording that the people chose Gopala as king. It also lists the northern kings who attended Dharmapala's installation of a ruler at Kannauj.
