Khumarawayh

864–896 · 9th century · Also known as Khumarawayh ibn Ahmad ibn Tulun

Khumarawayh was the second Tulunid ruler of Egypt and Syria, succeeding his father Ahmad ibn Tulun in 884. After fighting the Abbasid regent al-Muwaffaq, he reached a treaty in 886 that recognised his rule over Egypt and Syria in return for tribute. He married his daughter Qatr al-Nada to the caliph al-Mu'tadid with a famously lavish dowry, but his extravagance emptied the treasury, and he was murdered at Damascus in 896.
