Kingdom of the Two Sicilies

1816–1861 · 19th century

The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was the largest state of pre-unification Italy, formed in 1816 when the Bourbon king Ferdinand I merged the kingdoms of Naples and Sicily. It covered the southern mainland and Sicily, with Naples as its capital. Giuseppe Garibaldi's Expedition of the Thousand overthrew it in 1860, and it was annexed to the new Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
