Klis Fortress
Klis Fortress stands on a pass above Split in Croatia, guarding the route from the Dalmatian coast to the interior. It was a seat of the early medieval Croatian dukes and kings, and in the 16th century the Uskoks defended it against the Ottomans until it fell in 1537. Venice captured it in 1648.
