Kliptown
Kliptown is one of the oldest residential districts of Soweto, south-west of Johannesburg. On 25–26 June 1955 it hosted the Congress of the People, where the ANC and its allies in the Congress Alliance adopted the Freedom Charter before police broke up the meeting. The site is now Walter Sisulu Square, with a monument to the Charter.
