Croats
The Croats are a South Slavic people whose homeland lies in present-day Croatia. Croatia was linked to the Hungarian crown and later formed part of the Habsburg lands. Within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Croats were among the nationalities left in a subordinate position by the Compromise of 1867, contributing to the empire's nationality problem.
