Kobayakawa clan

The Kobayakawa were a Japanese warrior clan of Aki province in western Honshu. In the 16th century Mōri Motonari placed his son Takakage at its head, and with the Kikkawa it became one of the 'two rivers' supporting the Mōri. Takakage served Toyotomi Hideyoshi as one of his senior regents, and his adopted heir Kobayakawa Hideaki decided the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 by changing sides; the line ended with his death in 1602.
