Koine Greek

Also known as koine

Koine Greek was the common form of Greek that spread across the eastern Mediterranean and the Near East after the conquests of Alexander the Great. It served as the language of administration, commerce and culture in the Hellenistic kingdoms, including the Seleucid Empire. Its spread was one of the most lasting legacies of Seleucid rule, and it later became the language of the New Testament.
