Koos de la Rey
Koos de la Rey was a Boer general of the South African Republic and one of the most successful commanders of the Second Boer War. He fought at Modder River and Magersfontein in 1899 and, after the fall of Pretoria, led a long guerrilla campaign in the western Transvaal, capturing Lord Methuen at Tweebosch in 1902. He later served as a senator of the Union of South Africa and was shot dead at a police roadblock in 1914.
