Korçë

Also known as Korça

Korçë is a city in south-eastern Albania, on a plateau near the borders with Greece and North Macedonia. A centre of the Albanian national awakening, it saw the opening of the first Albanian-language school in 1887. During the First World War French troops occupied it and in 1916 created an autonomous Albanian province there, which they handed to the Albanian government in 1920.
