Korčula
Korčula is a Croatian island in the southern Adriatic, the Greek Korkyra Melaina ('Black Corfu'). In the early Middle Ages it belonged to the Narentines of Pagania, and it later passed between Croatia-Hungary, Venice and other powers before long Venetian rule from 1420. Its walled town, built on a herringbone street plan, is known for stone-carving and the Moreška sword dance.
