Kumemura
Kumemura was a community of Chinese immigrants at Kume, near the port of Naha on Okinawa, founded in the late 14th century by settlers from Fujian. Its families, remembered as the "thirty-six families from Min", provided the Ryukyu Kingdom with interpreters, navigators, scribes and diplomats for its tribute trade with China, and became a centre of Confucian learning. It is now part of the city of Naha.
