Lakshadweep

Also known as Laccadive Islands

Lakshadweep is a group of coral islands in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Kerala, forming a union territory of India. Formerly called the Laccadive Islands in English, most of them were long held by the Kolathiri rulers and then the Arakkal family of Cannanore, until the British took control in the 19th century. Most of its people are Muslims speaking Malayalam.
