Mappila
The Mappilas are a Muslim community of Kerala on the south-west coast of India, descended largely from Arab traders who settled on the Malabar coast and from local converts. Long active in seafaring and the spice trade, they supplied ministers and admirals to the Zamorins of Calicut and the Kolathiri rulers, and the Arakkal family of Cannanore formed Kerala's only Muslim royal house.
