Lashio
Lashio is the largest town of northern Shan State in Myanmar. It was the starting point of the Burma Road, built in 1937–1938 to carry supplies from the railhead at Lashio to Kunming in Nationalist China; Japanese forces captured it in April 1942, cutting the route. It has a large Chinese community and is a centre of trade with Yunnan.
