Laskarid dynasty

1204–1261 · 13th century · Also known as Laskaris dynasty, Laskarids

The Laskarid dynasty ruled the Empire of Nicaea, the main Byzantine successor state in Asia Minor, from 1204 to 1261. Its emperors, Theodore I Laskaris, John III Doukas Vatatzes, Theodore II Laskaris and the child John IV, rebuilt a Byzantine state and recovered much of Thrace and Macedonia. Their court was often at Nymphaion. Michael VIII Palaiologos usurped the throne and retook Constantinople in 1261.
