Nymphaion
Nymphaion was a town in western Asia Minor, east of Smyrna, now Kemalpaşa near İzmir in Turkey. The emperors of Nicaea often resided there, and John III Doukas Vatatzes built a palace whose ruins survive. In 1261 Michael VIII Palaiologos concluded the Treaty of Nymphaeum there with Genoa, granting Genoese merchants wide privileges in return for naval support.
