The Last Judgment (Memling)

c. 1467–1471 · 15th century

The Last Judgment is a triptych painted by Hans Memling in Bruges for Angelo Tani, an agent of the Medici bank. In 1473, on its way to Florence, the ship carrying it was captured by the Danzig privateer Paul Beneke, and the altarpiece was given to St Mary's Church in Danzig. Despite later claims by Florence and removals by the French and Soviets, it remains in Gdańsk, now in the National Museum.
